If you are a citizen of another country on a Residence Visa in the UAE, you may bring your dependents with you using a UAE Family Visa. However, not all can bring their dependents because certain standards must be completed.

Conditions for Sponsoring Someone for a UAE Family Visa

To sponsor family members to the UAE, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Male expatriates must have a monthly salary of AED 4,000 or AED 3,000 plus accommodation.
  • Female expatriates must have a monthly income of AED 10,000 or AED 8,000 plus accommodation.

In addition, all family members above the age of 18 must pass a medical fitness check at a government-approved health center in the UAE. They will get HIV and tuberculosis testing. Because the UAE does not acknowledge same-sex marriage, you will be unable to sponsor your spouse if you are in a same-sex relationship.

What occupations are eligible for a family visa in the UAE?

As of 2019, there are no specific professions that can sponsor their family members for a UAE Family Visa. Any foreign national who meets the wage requirements are allowed to bring their family to the UAE.

Who are you able to sponsor for a UAE Family Visa?

A male expatriate has an easier time sponsoring family members to the UAE than a female expatriate. If you are a man on a Residence Visa in the UAE, you can bring any of the family members on a Family Visa:

  • Your spouse. If you are a Muslim resident, you may sponsor two spouses, but you must meet certain GDRFA requirements.
  • Your sons. You can only sponsor your sons if they are under the age of 18. If your kids are past the age of 18, you can still sponsor them as long as they are students and under the age of 21. Furthermore, if the sons are over the age of 18, they must enter the UAE at least once every six months while studying abroad, otherwise, their UAE visa would be revoked.
  • Your daughters. You can only sponsor your daughters if they are not married.
  • Your parents. You can also sponsor your parents if you match the following requirements:
    • You sponsor both parents unless one of them has deceased;
    • You pay a deposit as a guarantee for each parent;
    • You obtain medical insurance for your parents; and
    • You have a monthly salary of AED 20,000 or AED 19,000 plus two-bedroom accommodation.
  • Your adopted children. You may even sponsor your stepchildren provided the biological parent provides you with a written No Objection Certificate. The stepchild visa is valid for one year and is renewable.

Is it possible for a woman to sponsor her family members for a UAE family visa?

Yes, she can, although the requirements for a woman to sponsor her family in the UAE are more stringent than for a man:

  • A female expat can sponsor are her husband and her children.
    She must have a monthly income of at least AED 10,000 or AED 8,000 with accommodation.
  • She must work as an engineer, teacher, or in a medical-related field (doctor, nurse, etc)
    • In some situations (and only with DRND approval), if the woman earns sufficient monthly pay, she may be eligible for sponsorship even if she is not employed in one of the aforementioned categories.
  • She is not permitted to sponsor the children herself if she has a husband who can do so

Documents Required for a UAE family visa

The following documents are required to support a UAE Family Visa application:

  • UAE Visa Application Form (online or through a registered typing office)
  • Passport-size photos of the family member/s being sponsored
  • Passport copies of the family member/s being sponsored
  • Medical clearance certificate for any family member over the age of 18
  • Proof of the sponsor’s monthly salary
  • Copy of the sponsor’s employment contract or company contract
  • The legalized marriage certificate
  • The most recent utility bill

How to Apply for a Family Visa in the UAE

The expat or his or her employer might sponsor. You must apply for a UAE Family Visa as a foreign resident within 60 days of acquiring your own UAE Residence Visa.
