Muscat: Omantel is the main provider of integrated telecommunication services in the Sultanate of Oman. As part of its involvement in COMEX 2023, which is in its 32nd year, Omantel has signed memoranda of understanding and contracts with several government and private institutions. MoUs have been made by Omantel with Sheikh Hilal bin Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate; Mohammed Al Naseeb, Chief Operating Officer of Oman LNG; Abdul Aziz Jaafar, Chief Executive Officer of ETCO; Anson Kim, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Sohar ports; Abdullah Al Badi, Chief Executive Officer of Tadoom; and Cook Wang, Senior Vice President of Hytera, were at the 32nd edition of COMEX Oman.

The signings are part of the company’s plan to help both public and private institutions achieve their goals and move in the direction of digital change. The main goal is to use the latest technical advances, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, smart cities, and other new technologies and solutions offered by Omantel.

In order to move in this direction and reach the goals of the digital transformation journey, Omantel has signed an MoU with Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate. The MoU includes cooperation in the field of telecommunications and an exchange of knowledge in different areas. Also, Omantel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Oman LNG Company to speed up the process of digital transformation in the oil and gas industry. These ideas are different and very important. Omantel has also signed an MOU with a new global technology company called ETCO. This will help Omantel keep up with the new trend of using satellite images and analytics around the world. The fifth agreement signed was with Tadoom to grow the state-of-the-art IoT (Internet of Things) network system through LoRaWAN, which allows for large-scale IoT rollouts and provides a strong communication infrastructure. This is to help with projects to build smart cities in different parts of the Sultanate of Oman. Omantel has signed an MOU with Hytera Communications to provide the push-to-talk service. This is the last of the signing events at COMEX. The service helps workers talk to each other right away by letting them send audio, video, or multi-media messages.

The CEO of Oman International Container Terminal, Mr. Anacin Kum, said, “To make sure that cargo, tourists, and port users at Port of Khasab are safe and secure, installing a security surveillance system became a top priority.” With the help of Omantel and Huawei, we are now ready to set up the 5G system in the Port of Khasab, which was a key part of ISPS compliance. This is the first time that 5G monitoring has been used for business in the Sultanate of Oman’s port management. We are sure that we can proactively deal with security issues and make things better for everyone.

Abdul Aziz Jaafar, the CEO of ETCO, said, “ETCO has been breaking new ground in the area of space science and technology. We’re very happy to be signing this deal with Omantel to improve our programme for analysing images from space. We are sure that Omantel’s experience will help us get to the next level in our goal to create and run world-class space-related technologies that will help the science communities in both Oman and around the world.
