Oman has said that enterprises and social media influencers who wish to promote or sell other products online will now have to get a license. The license doesn’t cost anything.
Azza bint Ibrahim Al Kindi, Director of the Commercial Affairs and E-Commerce Department at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, told the Times of Oman that there will be no fees for the license that is required to do marketing and promotion on websites and social media.
People in the UAE are comfortable getting financial advice from social media celebrities.

Al Kindi added that the change is part of Oman’s new online rules, which will start on March 24.
Starting on March 24, the authority will put into effect Ministerial Resolution No. 619/2022, which came out on December 25, 2022, and says how marketing and promotion can be done on websites and social media.
Al Kindi also said that firms don’t need a license to market their own goods and services, but they do need one to promote those of other companies or people.
She also added that license holders won’t have to pay taxes and that one license “can be used to hire many social media influencers to promote their activities.”
Companies or people from outside of Oman can travel there to advertise their goods and services, but Al Kindi added that they will need to set up their own business and get a license first.
People can get the license by going to the “Invest Easy” website and clicking on the “marketing and promotion on websites and social media” button. They can also get the same information through service delivery centres.
Once a new and active business registry has been made, choose the Tarakhees service, permits for commercial registry, and activity type. Then, fill out the information and attach the necessary documents. Finally, choose a license period between one and three years.
In the meantime, house enterprises and street vendors will not have to follow the new rules.
“The goal of the rule is to control how all products, goods, and services are advertised and sold on social media, the Times of Oman report added. “This is to protect the dealer and the customer, make sure that e-commerce transactions are safe, and protect the rights of dealers.”

Al Kindi also said that companies and businesses that seek out promoters and advertisers who are not licenced will have to pay a fine of up to OMR 1,000 ($2,597.89 or about AED 9,540.12).
She also said that their license would be suspended for up to a year and would be taken away after a warning.
