Company Name Reservation in Saudi Arabia

Name reservation is the first filing and a common refusal point. Arabic form matters, and the rules are not trademark rules.

GCC business setup specialists

Two different tests, often confused

The Ministry of Commerce decides whether a name may be registered. Whether you can stop someone else using it is a trademark question, decided by a different authority under different rules. Passing the first gives you nothing on the second.

  • Options prepared, not one hopeful submission
  • Arabic form handled properly

What gets refused

Common reasons a name is rejected

Most refusals fall into one of these.

ReasonWhat it means in practice
Already registeredAn identical or confusingly similar name exists.
Religious or state termsNames invoking religion or implying official status are refused.
Implying a regulated activityWords suggesting banking, insurance or similar need that licence.
Mismatch with the activityA name implying something you are not licensed for will be queried.
Arabic formThe Arabic rendering has to work, not merely transliterate.
Offensive or public-order termsRefused, and the definition is broader than many expect.

Naming rules are set by the Ministry of Commerce, applied with discretion and change over time. We prepare alternatives rather than relying on one submission.

How it works

Reserving the name

Fast when prepared, slow when guessed.

01

Shortlist and check

You give us the names you want. We check them against the rules and the register, and say which are likely to pass and why the others will not.

02

Reserve

The preferred name submitted with alternatives ready, so a refusal costs hours rather than a restart.

03

Carry it through

The reserved name flows into the Articles, the Commercial Registration and then your bank account and invoices.

Questions

Saudi name reservation — FAQs

Does reserving a name protect my brand?

No. Reservation lets you register the company. Protecting the brand is trademark registration through the intellectual property authority, which is separate and worth doing early.

Does the name need to be in Arabic?

There is an Arabic form of the name on the registration. Getting it to read properly rather than as a literal transliteration is worth attention.

Can I use my own name?

Generally yes, subject to the naming rules, and the passport spelling is what counts.

How long is a reservation valid?

Reservations are time-limited. We tell you the window when granted so the rest of the formation fits inside it.

Can I change the name later?

Yes, but it is an amendment with knock-on effects: Articles, Commercial Registration, bank account, invoices and signage all follow.
