Trademark & Brand Registration in Saudi Arabia

Own the brand, not just the name

Trademark & Brand Registration in Saudi Arabia

Your registered company name lets you trade. A trademark is what lets you stop someone else using your brand.

GCC business setup specialists

Two registrations, two authorities

The Ministry of Commerce registers your company name. Brand rights come from the intellectual property authority, in the classes you register. Companies that trade for years unregistered often find someone else has filed first.

  • Search before filing, not optimism
  • Arabic and Latin marks considered together
  • Classes chosen for what you actually sell

How it works

From search to registered mark

The search is the cheapest step and the one most often skipped.

01

Search and classes

We search for conflicts and identify the classes covering what you sell now and shortly. You get an honest view of prospects.

02

File

Application filed in the agreed classes, in the form you actually use the mark, with the documents required.

03

Examination to registration

Examination, publication and any opposition period followed through, queries answered, certificate issued.

To file

What an application needs

Filing in the wrong classes is expensive to correct.

Talk it through →

  • The mark exactly as you use it
  • Logo artwork in the required format
  • Arabic form of the mark, where relevant
  • List of goods and services sold
  • Goods or services planned within the year
  • Applicant details and Commercial Registration
  • Passport copy of the signatory
  • Power of attorney, notarised and attested
  • Priority documents, if claiming an earlier filing
  • Evidence of existing use, where available
  • Registrations held in other countries
  • Any objection already raised

Questions

Saudi trademark registration — FAQs

Does my commercial name protect my brand?

No. It lets you register and trade. Stopping others requires trademark registration through the intellectual property authority.

Should I file in Arabic as well?

Often yes. Where the brand is used in Arabic, or likely to be, filing both forms is usually the safer position. We advise on your specific use.

How many classes do I need?

Protection applies within the classes registered, and most businesses need more than one. Each carries its own fee, so we match them to what you actually sell.

How long does it take?

Examination, publication and the opposition window take months rather than weeks. Filing early matters more than filing fast.

What if someone registered my name already?

The search tells us before you spend on filing, and we set out what is realistic rather than filing hopefully.
