GST Registration & Returns in Singapore

Singapore GST applies once you cross the registration threshold, and voluntarily before that if it suits you.

GCC business setup specialists

Register when required, or by choice

GST registration is compulsory once turnover crosses the threshold and optional below it. Voluntary registration can allow input tax recovery and looks more established, but it brings filing obligations and conditions that are not always worth taking on early.

  • Registration assessed rather than applied for by reflex
  • Invoices checked against the requirements
  • Returns prepared from reconciled records

How it works

Getting GST right

The setup work prevents a difficult review later.

01

Assess

Your turnover, trajectory and the nature of your supplies, and whether registration is compulsory, voluntary or best deferred.

02

Register and set up

Registration where it applies, then invoice format, categories and records set up so returns come from the books.

03

File and support

Returns prepared and filed each period, with records retained in case treatment is questioned.

Questions

Singapore GST — FAQs

When must I register for GST?

Once turnover crosses the registration threshold. Below that, registration is voluntary and worth assessing rather than defaulting to.

Should I register voluntarily?

Sometimes. It allows input tax recovery and can look more established, but it brings filing obligations and conditions. We set out both sides for your situation.

Are exports zero-rated?

Exports and qualifying international services can be zero-rated where conditions are met and documented. Applying it on assumption is a common error.

What is reverse charge?

A mechanism under which certain businesses account for GST on services bought from overseas. Whether it applies to you is assessed rather than assumed.

What if I registered late?

Penalties apply and accumulate. The position is usually recoverable and better addressed immediately.
