Where the structure sits matters
Holding Company & Investment Structures in Qatar
Qatar offers holding structures on the mainland and through the Qatar Financial Centre. They are not equivalent.

The regime shapes the structure
A mainland holding company sits under Qatari law with the ownership-linked tax charge. A Qatar Financial Centre entity sits under its own regulations with its own tax regime and is often the cleaner route for holding and treasury functions. Choosing between them before you build is far easier than migrating later.
- Regime matched to what the structure will hold
- Tax consequence of ownership modelled first
- Honest about what Qatar does and does not offer here

The options
Ways to hold from Qatar
Framework and tax regime differ.
| Structure | Framework | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Mainland holding company | Qatari law | Holding Qatari operating subsidiaries |
| Qatar Financial Centre entity | QFC regulations and tax regime | Holding, treasury and professional functions |
| Free zone entity | Free Zones Authority framework | Holding alongside zone operations |
| Branch structure | Ministry approval | Project execution, not holding |
| Joint venture company | Qatari law | Partnering with a local group |
| Foreign holding company | Outside Qatar | Holding the Qatari entity from abroad |
Holding structures, ownership approvals and the respective tax regimes are set by the authorities and change. Your structure is assessed against current rules.

Questions
Qatar holding structures — FAQs
Should a holding company sit on the mainland or in the Qatar Financial Centre?
It depends on what it holds and what it does. The Qatar Financial Centre is often cleaner for holding and treasury; mainland suits holding Qatari operating entities closely.
Does foreign ownership affect the tax position?
Yes on the mainland, where the charge attaches to the foreign-owned share of profits. The Qatar Financial Centre has its own regime.
Can a Qatari holding company own foreign subsidiaries?
Yes, subject to approvals and the activity permitted in its registration. We confirm the scope before you rely on it.
Is Qatar a treaty jurisdiction?
Qatar has a treaty network, and whether it helps depends on the counterparty country and the structure. We co-ordinate rather than assume.
Can I migrate the structure later?
It is possible but disruptive. Choosing the right regime at the outset is considerably cheaper.
