Employment & Labour Compliance in Kuwait

Leave is more generous than most expect

Employment & Labour Compliance in Kuwait

Kuwaiti statutory annual leave is among the most generous in the region, and indemnity accrues from the first year.

GCC business setup specialists

Budget the entitlements, not just the salary

The Labour Law provides substantial annual leave, an end-of-service indemnity accruing with service, and paid sick leave on a graduated scale. For an expatriate workforce there are no social insurance contributions, so employers sometimes assume the cost is simply salary. It is not: leave, indemnity and sick pay together represent a material addition that should be in the model from the first hire.

  • Full employment cost calculated, including leave and indemnity
  • Contracts to the Labour Law rather than imported templates
  • Nationalisation position modelled alongside the quota

Questions

Kuwait employment compliance — FAQs

How much annual leave must I give?

A substantial statutory entitlement, more generous than in several neighbouring states. We confirm the current figure and build it into the cost model.

What is end-of-service indemnity?

A payment accruing with length of service and payable on termination. It should be provisioned monthly rather than discovered at a resignation.

Do I pay social insurance for expatriate staff?

No. The contributory scheme applies to Kuwaiti nationals. Indemnity performs a comparable function for expatriates.

What do nationalisation targets mean in practice?

They affect your permit allocation, so employing Kuwaiti nationals is both a compliance matter and the way to expand your expatriate headcount.

Can I terminate employment freely?

Notice and procedural requirements apply and entitlements must be settled. We set out the process before you need it.
