One permit, work and residence
Investor & Employee Visas in Mauritius
Mauritius issues a combined work and residence permit. Which route you qualify under depends on thresholds, not preference.

The Occupation Permit is the main route
Rather than separate work and residence documents, Mauritius grants an Occupation Permit through the Economic Development Board covering both. There are distinct investor, professional and self-employed categories, each with its own qualifying threshold, and the category you fit determines what you must demonstrate and maintain.
- Route assessed against your actual position, not a brochure
- Thresholds and renewal conditions set out before you apply
- Family and long-term residence options explained together
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

Occupation Permit and residence categories
Each route tests something different.
| Route | Who it is for | What it turns on |
|---|---|---|
| Investor | Owners investing in a Mauritian business | Initial investment and ongoing turnover |
| Professional | Employees of a Mauritian employer | A qualifying monthly salary and a real role |
| Self-employed | Individuals operating on their own account | Investment and business income generated |
| Permanent Residence | Long-stay permit holders and larger investors | Sustained compliance over time |
| Retired non-citizen | Retirees meeting transfer conditions | Funds transferred into Mauritius |
| Premium travel visa | Longer stays without local employment | Income earned outside Mauritius |
Occupation Permit categories, thresholds and validity periods are set by the Economic Development Board and change. Yours is checked against current criteria before any application.

Questions
Mauritius Occupation Permit — FAQs
Is the Occupation Permit a work permit or a residence permit?
Both. It is a combined document, which is one of the more practical features of the Mauritian system.
What investment is required for the investor route?
There is an initial investment threshold and an ongoing turnover condition. Both are set by the Economic Development Board and change, so we confirm current figures before you commit.
Can my family join me?
Yes. Dependants can generally be included, and we handle those applications alongside the principal.
Does it lead to permanent residence?
It can. Sustained compliance over the permit period, or a larger investment, opens the permanent residence route.
Can I lose the permit?
Yes, if the qualifying condition is not maintained — turnover below the threshold, for example. We set those conditions out clearly at the start.
