Import / Export Business Setup in Oman
Oman’s ports and free zones are built for transit trade. The structure you choose depends on whether goods stay or move on.

Transit or local sale changes everything
Oman’s position and port infrastructure suit re-export and regional distribution. Whether goods are sold locally or moved on decides free zone against mainland, and the duty position with it.
- Structure matched to how goods actually move
- Customs registration set up with the licence
- Documentation checked for consistency
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

What trading needs
Beyond the registration
Which apply depends on your goods and how they move.
| Requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Trading activities | The registration must cover the goods you actually trade. |
| Customs registration | Needed to clear goods in the company’s own name. |
| Free zone or mainland | Zones suit re-export and warehousing; mainland suits local sale. |
| Product approvals | Food, pharmaceuticals and other categories need clearance. |
| Documentation | Invoice, packing list, origin certificate and transport documents, consistent. |
| Storage | Where goods sit, and whether premises suit the category. |
Customs procedures, duty treatment and product approvals are set by the Omani authorities and change. Yours are confirmed before the first shipment.
How it works
Getting trade-ready
A routine first shipment rather than an educational one.
Goods and route
What you move, from where, to whom, and whether for local sale or re-export. That decides the structure and flags approvals.
Registration and customs code
Registration with the right trading activities, then customs registration so you clear in your own name.
Approvals and first shipment
Product approvals obtained where required, documentation set up, first shipment supported through clearance.
Before you ship

Questions
Oman import and export — FAQs
Do I need a customs code?
To clear goods in your own name, yes. It is tied to your registration and set up alongside it.
Free zone or mainland for trading?
Zones suit import and re-export with warehousing; mainland suits selling into Oman directly. Many businesses need both.
Can free zone stock be sold locally?
Not directly as a free zone company. It generally requires a mainland route, and the duty position changes.
Which goods need approvals?
Food, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and several other categories typically do. We check your specific list.
What usually holds a shipment?
Documents that do not match each other, or an HS code that does not fit the goods.
