Business Tax Registration & Returns in Oman
Oman applies corporate income tax, and withholding tax can arise on payments to non-residents. Both need planning rather than discovery.

Oman is not a no-tax jurisdiction
Investors comparing Oman with its neighbours sometimes assume a no-tax environment. There is a corporate income tax regime with registration, filing and record-keeping obligations, and withholding tax on certain payments abroad.
- Registration handled within the deadline
- Withholding tax considered on your payment patterns
- Returns prepared from books we maintain
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

What applies
Registrations and filings
Which apply depends on your activity, size and payments.
| Obligation | Who it affects | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Tax registration | Omani companies generally | Register you and keep credentials on file |
| Annual return | Registered companies | Prepare the computation and return from your books |
| Provisional filings | Where required | Prepare and submit within the deadlines |
| Withholding tax | Companies paying non-residents | Identify payments in scope, withhold and file |
| Small taxpayer treatment | Smaller companies meeting the conditions | Assess whether it applies to you |
| Record keeping | All companies | Maintain records in the form and period required |
Rates, thresholds, deadlines and withholding categories are set by the Oman Tax Authority and change. Your position is confirmed against current rules before filing.

Questions
Oman tax — FAQs
Is Oman tax-free?
No. There is a corporate income tax regime with registration and filing obligations, and withholding tax on certain payments to non-residents.
What are the rates?
Rates and thresholds are set by the Tax Authority and change. We confirm the figures applying to your period at filing rather than quoting numbers that may have moved.
What is withholding tax?
Certain payments to non-residents require tax to be withheld and remitted. It is one of the most commonly missed obligations for new entrants.
Does a loss-making company file?
Yes. Registration and filing obligations apply regardless of whether an amount is payable.
What if I am already late?
Penalties apply and accumulate. The position is usually recoverable and better addressed now than at the next deadline.
