Labour Law obligations
Employment & Labour Compliance in Qatar
Qatari employment law carries a minimum wage, gratuity and mandatory electronic wage payment.
GCC business setup specialists
Wage payment is monitored
Qatar requires salaries to be paid electronically through the Wage Protection System, and non-compliance can block company services including visa processing. Alongside the statutory minimum wage and end-of-service gratuity, this makes payroll compliance an operational matter rather than a back-office one.
- Compliant contracts in the required form
- Gratuity and the real employment cost calculated up front
- Wage Protection System set up correctly from the first payroll

Questions
Qatar employment compliance — FAQs
What is the Wage Protection System?
A requirement to pay salaries electronically so payments can be monitored. Non-compliance can block company services including visa transactions.
Is there a minimum wage?
Yes, comprising a basic wage plus allowances for food and accommodation where not provided. It is set by law and revised.
How is end-of-service gratuity calculated?
It accrues with length of service on the basis set by the Labour Law and is payable on termination. It should be provided for monthly, not found at the end.
Is there social security for expatriate staff?
Expatriate employees are not within the national pension scheme; gratuity performs a comparable function. Qatari employees have separate pension obligations.
Can I terminate employment freely?
Notice and process requirements apply, and gratuity and leave entitlements must be settled. We set out the procedure before you need it.
