Business Licence Applications in Singapore

Sector permits, not a trade licence

Business Licence Applications in Singapore

Singapore has no general trade licence. Sector permits exist and are taken seriously.

GCC business setup specialists

Incorporate, then check the sector

Most Singapore businesses incorporate and begin trading with no further permission. Where a sector is regulated — food, financial services, employment agencies, education, liquor — the permit comes before trading and is enforced.

  • Permits identified for your actual activity
  • Correct agency approached first time
  • No invented requirements where none exist

What might apply

Permits that catch Singapore businesses

There is no master licence; these are activity-specific.

Singapore permits are activity-specific and change. Which apply to your business is confirmed before you start trading. Incorporation and corporate secretarial filings in Singapore are made through a registered filing agent, and a foreign applicant must use one. We co-ordinate your engagement with a registered Singapore agent and manage the process end to end; the regulated filings are made by them.

How it works

Establishing what you need

For many businesses, incorporation is the whole answer.

01

Assess the activity

What you will actually do and whether it touches a regulated sector. For most businesses nothing further applies.

02

Identify and apply

Where a permit applies, we identify the correct agency and prepare the application with the evidence it expects.

03

Conditions and renewals

Any conditions carried into your compliance calendar, with renewals tracked.

To assess

What we will ask you

The activity and premises drive everything.

Talk it through →

  • Whether you prepare or sell food
  • Whether you handle client money
  • Whether you advise on investments or payments
  • Whether you place or recruit workers
  • Whether you teach or train
  • Whether you sell alcohol
  • Where you will operate from
  • Whether premises are open to the public
  • Whether you import or export goods
  • Any agency contact already made
  • Equivalent licences held elsewhere

Questions

Singapore business licensing — FAQs

Do I need a licence to trade in Singapore?

For most businesses, no. You incorporate, register with IRAS as required and begin. Permits are sector-specific.

Which sectors are regulated?

Food, financial services, employment agencies, private education, liquor, and goods subject to import controls, among others. We check your specific activity.

How long do permits take?

It depends entirely on the agency. Food premises involve inspection; financial services licensing is a substantial process taking months.

Can I trade while an application is pending?

No, where the activity requires a permit. Operating without one is taken seriously.

Do permits need renewing?

Most do, on their own cycle. We put them on the same calendar as your ACRA and IRAS deadlines.
