Your first hire, done properly
Employee Hiring & Work Authorization in UAE
Hiring here is a sequence of registrations and permits, not a contract and a handshake. Getting it in the right order is what keeps the employee legal from day one.

Employ, do not improvise
The common mistake is having someone start work before the permit exists, often while they are on a visit visa. It exposes the company and the individual, and it is entirely avoidable by starting the sequence two or three weeks earlier.
- Employer registrations completed before you hire
- Contracts aligned to what you actually agreed
- Quota checked against your premises
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

What hiring involves
The employer obligations behind one hire
Each of these attaches to the company, not the individual, and most apply from the first employee.
| Obligation | What it means |
|---|---|
| Employer registration | The company is registered with the relevant labour authority before it can sponsor anyone. |
| Work permit | Each employee needs authorisation to work for your company specifically — it is not transferable by itself. |
| Employment contract | A contract in the authority’s required form, matching what you actually agreed. |
| Residence sponsorship | Entry permit, medical, Emirates ID and stamping for each sponsored employee. |
| Quota | How many people you may sponsor, driven by premises and activity. |
| End-of-service entitlements | Accruing from the start of employment, so they are budgeted rather than discovered. |
Labour rules, permit categories and quota differ between mainland and free zones and change over time. What applies to your company is confirmed before you hire.
How it works
From offer to legally working
Start this before the person resigns from their current job, not after.
Registrations and quota
Employer registration completed and quota confirmed against your premises, so you know how many people you can actually sponsor before you make offers.
Permit and contract
Work permit applied for and the employment contract prepared in the required form, matching the salary, role and terms you actually agreed.
Entry, medical, Emirates ID
Entry permit, medical testing, Emirates ID and residence stamping, after which the employee is legally working for you.

Questions
Hiring staff in the UAE — FAQs
Can someone start work while their permit is processing?
No. Working before the permit is in place exposes both the company and the individual, including where the person is in the country on a visit visa. The sequence has to be started early enough that it does not become tempting.
How many people can I sponsor?
It depends on your premises and activity. Confirm quota before making offers, not after — it is the most common reason a hire has to be unwound.
Can I hire someone already in the UAE?
Usually yes, by transferring their sponsorship to your company, subject to their current status and employer. It is often faster than hiring from abroad but it is not automatic.
What is end-of-service and when does it accrue?
It is an entitlement that builds over the employment and is payable when it ends. It accrues from the start, so it belongs in your cost planning from the first hire rather than being met as a surprise.
Do free zone and mainland employers differ?
Yes — registration, permits and quota all work differently, and some free zones administer their own regime. We confirm which applies to you before you register anything.
