Residence through the business
Investor & Entrepreneur Immigration in UAE
For most founders, residence follows the company. The licence, the premises and the quota decide what is possible before any visa application is made.

The company comes first
People ask for a visa and need a company; or buy the cheapest licence and discover it carries no quota. Residence, quota and premises are one decision, and taking them together is what avoids paying twice.
- Quota confirmed before you commit to premises
- Route matched to your actual circumstances
- Company, visa and Emirates ID handled together
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

How residence connects
What decides your options
Routes and eligibility are set by the authorities and change; these are the factors that drive the answer.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Your licence type | Different entity types carry different sponsorship ability. An offshore company carries none at all. |
| Premises | Visa quota is tied to the space you hold, which is why premises are chosen after headcount is known. |
| Shareholding | Whether you are an owner or an employee of your own company changes the route. |
| Dependants | Sponsoring family has its own conditions, separate from your own residence. |
| Long-term routes | Longer-validity residence routes exist with their own eligibility criteria, assessed case by case. |
| Timing | Residence follows licence issue and the opening of the immigration file — it cannot run ahead of them. |
Immigration routes, eligibility criteria and processing are set by the authorities and change. Your eligibility is assessed against the current rules before any application.
How it works
From licence to Emirates ID
Each person goes through the same sequence once the company file is open.
Plan quota and route
How many people, who they are, and what the company needs to hold to sponsor them. Settled before premises are signed, because quota follows premises.
Establishment card and permits
Immigration file opened against the licence, then entry permits issued for each person being sponsored.
Medical, Emirates ID, stamping
Medical testing, biometrics and Emirates ID, then residence stamping. Dependants follow once the sponsor’s residence is in place.
For each applicant
What each person needs
Dependants need the sponsor’s residence complete first.
- Passport with sufficient validity
- Passport-size photographs to specification
- Current visa page or entry stamp
- Company trade licence and establishment card
- Memorandum showing shareholding, for owners

- Tenancy contract, where required for dependants
- Marriage certificate, attested, for a spouse
- Birth certificates, attested, for children
- Educational certificates, where the role requires them
- Medical fitness test, completed in the UAE
- Emirates ID biometrics appointment

Questions
UAE investor immigration — FAQs
Can I get residence without setting up a company?
There are routes that do not depend on a company, with their own eligibility criteria. For most founders the company route is the practical one, and we will say plainly if your circumstances point elsewhere.
How many visas can my company sponsor?
It depends on your licence and the premises you hold. That is why quota is confirmed before a lease is signed rather than after.
Can I sponsor my family?
Generally yes, once your own residence is in place and the conditions for dependants are met. Those conditions are separate from your own and are assessed individually.
Do I need to live in the UAE to keep residence?
Residence carries conditions about time spent outside the country. They differ by route and change, so we confirm what applies to yours rather than relying on what was true previously.
What happens to my visa if I close the company?
Residence sponsored by the company ends with it, which is one reason abandoning a company rather than closing it properly causes problems later.
