Business Tax Registration & Returns in UAE

Corporate tax registration applies whether or not tax turns out to be payable. The deadlines are real, and the records behind the return matter as much as the return itself.

GCC business setup specialists

“Tax-free” stopped being the whole answer

The UAE still compares well internationally, but there is now a corporate tax regime with registration obligations, filing deadlines and record-keeping requirements. Companies that treat it as paperwork discover at filing time that the records needed to support their position were never kept.

  • Registration handled within the deadline
  • Returns prepared from books we maintain
  • Your position explained before it is filed

What applies

Registrations and filings

Which of these apply to you depends on your activity, your turnover and where you are licensed.

Rates, thresholds, deadlines and free zone conditions are set by the authority and change. Your position is confirmed against the current rules in writing before anything is filed.

How it works

From registration to filed return

The work that makes filing straightforward happens months before the deadline.

01

Position assessment

We establish what applies to you: corporate tax registration, whether VAT is in scope, and how the free zone rules bear on your activities if you are licensed in one. You get that in writing.

02

Registration

Registrations completed within the deadline, credentials recorded, and the record-keeping set up so the return can actually be prepared from your books when the time comes.

03

Returns and support

Computation and return prepared, explained to you before submission, filed, and the supporting records retained in case the position is ever examined.

Questions

Business Tax Registration & Returns in UAE — FAQs

Does my company have to register for corporate tax?

Registration applies to UAE companies generally, and it is required regardless of whether tax turns out to be payable. Treating a low or nil liability as a reason not to register is the most common and most expensive misunderstanding we see.

Is a free zone company exempt?

Not automatically. There are conditions attached to how a free zone company is treated, and they relate to the nature of your activities and income, not simply to the address on your licence. We assess and document the basis rather than assume it.

What are the rates and thresholds?

They are set by the authority and have changed since the regime was introduced. We confirm the figures that apply to your tax period against the current rules at the time of filing, rather than quoting numbers that may have moved.

Do I need to register for VAT as well?

Only if you meet the conditions for registration, which turn on your turnover and the nature of your supplies. Some businesses may also register voluntarily. We assess it rather than registering you by default.

What happens if I miss a deadline?

Late registration and late filing carry penalties, and they accumulate. If you are already late, the position is usually recoverable but it is better addressed immediately than at the next deadline.

Can you file from my own bookkeeping?

Yes, provided the records support it. Where they do not, we will tell you what is missing before filing rather than submitting a return we cannot stand behind.
