Foreign-Owned Company Setup in Mauritius
Mauritius places no restriction on foreign ownership of companies. Land is a different matter, and substance is the real question.
GCC business setup specialists
Open to capital, strict on substance
Foreign investors can own Mauritian companies outright, and the Global Business regime exists specifically for them. What is scrutinised is not who owns the company but whether it is genuinely managed from Mauritius — which determines its tax treatment.
- Ownership position confirmed as unrestricted
- Substance requirements explained before you commit
- Land and property restrictions flagged where relevant

What applies
Foreign ownership in Mauritius
Open on companies, restricted on land.
| Question | Position |
|---|---|
| Can a foreigner own 100% of a company? | Yes, with no local partner requirement. |
| Is there an investment approval? | Not generally for ordinary activity; licensed sectors are separate. |
| Can a foreigner own land? | Restricted. Acquisition generally requires approval or an approved scheme. |
| Management company required? | Yes for Global Business and Authorised Companies. |
| Resident directors? | Required for a Global Business Company as part of substance. |
| Is ownership public? | Beneficial ownership is recorded with the authorities rather than openly published. |
A Global Business Company must be administered by a management company licensed by the Financial Services Commission, and an Authorised Company must have a licensed registered agent. That is a statutory requirement in Mauritius, not a commercial preference. We co-ordinate your engagement with a licensed Mauritian management company and manage the process end to end; the regulated filings are made by them.

Questions
Mauritius foreign ownership — FAQs
Can I own 100% of a Mauritian company?
Yes. There is no foreign ownership restriction on companies and no local partner requirement.
Can I buy land or property?
Property acquisition by non-citizens is restricted and generally requires approval or purchase under an approved scheme. It is a separate question from company ownership.
Why do I need a management company?
Because Mauritius law requires it for Global Business and Authorised Companies. It is a licensed regulated function, not an administrative convenience.
Does the company need Mauritian directors?
A Global Business Company requires resident directors as part of its substance. An Authorised Company is managed outside Mauritius by design.
Does owning a company give me residency?
No. Residence is a separate application through the Occupation Permit or similar routes, assessed on its own criteria.
