Designated areas, defined rights
Real Estate & Property Business Setup in Qatar
Non-Qataris can own property in designated areas and hold long-term rights in others. The map matters.

Freehold is area-specific
Qatar permits non-Qatari ownership in designated freehold areas and long-term usufruct rights in others, with property investment above prescribed thresholds capable of supporting residency. Outside the designated areas the position is different. Which side of the line a property sits on is the first question.
- Ownership rights confirmed for the specific property
- Residency thresholds explained accurately
- Brokerage licensing covered where you are the agent
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

The rules
How property rights work for non-Qataris
Rights depend on the area.
| Question | Position |
|---|---|
| Freehold ownership | Permitted in designated areas. |
| Usufruct rights | Long-term rights available in other designated areas. |
| Outside designated areas | Different and more restricted position. |
| Residency | Available above prescribed investment thresholds. |
| Registration | Through the real estate registration system. |
| Brokerage | Licensed activity, with its own requirements. |
Designated areas, investment thresholds, residency conditions and brokerage licensing are set by law and change. Your position is checked for the specific property before you commit.
How it works
Working through a property matter
Confirm the rights before any deposit.
Confirm the rights
Whether the specific property is in a designated area, what right is available and whether residency could follow.
Structure and register
Whether to hold personally or through an entity, with registration completed through the proper channel.
Or set up as a broker
Where you are the agent rather than the buyer, brokerage licensing and registration handled.
Before you commit

Questions
Qatar property for non-Qataris — FAQs
Can a foreigner buy property in Qatar?
Yes, in designated freehold areas, with long-term usufruct rights available in other designated areas. Outside those the position is more restricted.
Does buying property give residency?
Investment above prescribed thresholds can support residency, with conditions. The threshold and conditions are set by law and change.
Should I hold personally or through a company?
It depends on your purpose, number of properties and tax position elsewhere. We set out the trade-offs rather than defaulting.
Do I need a licence to act as a broker?
Yes. Real estate brokerage is a licensed activity with its own requirements and registration.
I have paid a deposit on an off-plan unit — is that safe?
We confirm the area status, the right being sold and the registration position. Doing that before a deposit is always better.
