Visas come first
Company Closure & Restructuring in Qatar
Closing a Qatar company starts with its people. Employee visas have to be cancelled before anything else works.

Sequence is the whole difficulty
You cannot deregister a Qatar company while employee residence permits and the establishment card remain active, and you cannot cancel those while salaries and gratuity are unsettled. Add tax settlement and clearances from several authorities and the order becomes the project.
- The whole sequence mapped, starting with the people
- Clearances co-ordinated across every authority
- Director and sponsor exposure explained before you stop paying
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

What is involved
The closure sequence
Order matters more than speed.
| Step | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Settle employees | Salaries, leave and end-of-service gratuity paid. |
| Cancel visas | Residence permits cancelled for all staff. |
| Shareholder resolution | Formal decision to liquidate. |
| Liquidator and accounts | Appointed, with final audited accounts. |
| Tax settlement | Returns filed and position settled. |
| Clearances and deregistration | Authority clearances, then removal from the register. |
Liquidation, clearance and deregistration procedures are set by the authorities and change, and insolvent situations follow a different route.
How it works
Closing or restructuring
People first, register last.
Assess and plan
What is outstanding, whether liquidation or restructuring is the right answer, and the order each step must follow.
Settle people and tax
Employees settled and visas cancelled, final accounts prepared and the tax position settled.
Clear and deregister
Clearances obtained from each authority, the establishment card cancelled and the company removed from the register.
- Employee salaries and leave settled
- End-of-service gratuity paid
- Employee residence permits cancelled
- Establishment card cancelled
- Shareholder resolution to liquidate
- Liquidator appointed
- Final audited accounts prepared
- Tax returns filed and position settled
- Trade licence and sector approvals surrendered
- Chamber membership closed
- Utilities, telecoms and lease obligations closed
- Bank accounts closed after final payments

Questions
Qatar company closure — FAQs
Can I just stop renewing the licence?
No. Fines accrue, employees remain your sponsored responsibility, and the company is left in default rather than closed.
Why do visas have to be cancelled first?
Because the establishment card and registration cannot be closed while sponsored residence permits remain active, and visas cannot be cancelled while entitlements are unpaid.
Is tax settlement required?
Returns must be up to date and the position settled before clearances and deregistration complete.
Do I need a liquidator?
For a formal liquidation, yes, with final audited accounts. We co-ordinate the appointment and the process.
Would restructuring be better than closing?
Sometimes — a change of activity, regime, shareholding or scale can achieve what you want without unwinding everything. We will say when that applies.
