Reserved online, assessed on substance
Trade Name Reservation in Bahrain
Bahrain reserves trade names through the Sijilat portal. The process is quick; the assessment is not automatic.

Fast portal, real assessment
Because reservation runs through Sijilat you get an answer quickly, which tempts people to submit a single hopeful name. The Ministry still assesses whether the name conflicts with an existing registration, whether its Arabic form is acceptable, and whether it is consistent with the activity you are registering. Three ranked options turn a week of resubmissions into one afternoon.
- Three ranked options checked before submission
- Arabic form reviewed, not assumed
- Name carried through registration and activation
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

What gets refused
Why a Bahraini name application fails
Most refusals are one of these.
| Reason | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Conflict on the register | An identical or closely similar name exists. |
| Arabic form queried | The transliteration or its meaning is not accepted. |
| Inconsistent with the activity | The name implies something you are not registering. |
| Restricted terms | Words implying banking, insurance or state links need consent. |
| Geographic or national terms | Often restricted or require approval. |
| Undesirable wording | Refused outright. |
Name rules are applied by the Ministry with discretion and change, and a reservation is time-limited. We prepare alternatives rather than relying on one submission. Most Bahraini commercial registration work runs through Sijilat, the Ministry’s online portal, which makes the mechanics faster than in neighbouring states — but it also means an application is assessed on what you entered, so the activity description and supporting documents have to be right the first time.
How it works
Reserving the name
Checked in both languages before it goes in.
Shortlist and check
Your options checked against the register, the restricted terms and the activity you intend to register, in English and Arabic.
Reserve through the portal
The preferred name submitted, with alternatives held ready so a refusal costs hours rather than days.
Carry it through
The reserved name used in the memorandum, the commercial registration, activity activation and your signage application.

Questions
Bahrain trade names — FAQs
Is a reserved trade name the same as brand protection?
No. It lets you register the company. Protecting the brand is a separate trademark filing with the Ministry’s industrial property directorate.
Does the Arabic version matter?
Yes, and it is assessed rather than accepted automatically. We review the transliteration before submitting.
Must the name match my activity?
It should be consistent with it. A name implying an activity you are not registering invites a query or a refusal.
How long does a reservation last?
It is time-limited, and registration should follow within the window. We tell you the period when it is granted.
Can I change the name after registering?
Yes, by amendment through the portal, with consequences for your licence, signage, bank account and contracts.
