Bookkeeping, Accounting & Audit in Hong Kong

Audit is not optional

Bookkeeping, Accounting & Audit in Hong Kong

Every Hong Kong company is audited annually. The books either support that cleanly or make it expensive.

GCC business setup specialists

The audit sets the standard

Because the audit is mandatory for every company, Hong Kong bookkeeping is not an internal convenience — it is the input to a statutory audit and a profits tax return. Records assembled at year end make both slower and dearer than they need to be.

  • Books kept to what the auditor will need
  • Audit co-ordinated, not left to you
  • Profits tax return prepared from the same records

What we run

The Hong Kong compliance cycle

The audit sits at the centre of it.

Reporting standards, audit requirements and filing deadlines are set by the Hong Kong authorities and change. The audit itself is performed by an independent Hong Kong CPA.

How it works

Getting the books audit-ready

The work that makes an audit cheap happens months before it.

01

Position and handover

We review what exists, establish the opening position and confirm your financial year end and filing dates.

02

Keep the records

Bookkeeping maintained with the supporting documents an auditor will ask for, rather than reconstructed later.

03

Statements, audit, return

Financial statements prepared, the audit co-ordinated with a Hong Kong CPA, and the profits tax return filed.

To get started

Questions

Hong Kong accounting and audit — FAQs

Is the audit really mandatory?

Yes, for every Hong Kong company annually, regardless of size or whether it traded. It is the single biggest difference from jurisdictions with small-company exemptions.

Who performs the audit?

An independent Hong Kong CPA. We prepare the statements and co-ordinate the audit, but we do not perform it ourselves.

What is the territorial basis of profits tax?

Hong Kong broadly taxes profits with a source in Hong Kong. Whether particular profits are offshore-sourced is a technical question requiring advice and evidence, not an assumption.

Can you take over messy records?

Yes. We establish an opening position and bring the backlog current. Clean-up is scoped separately, and it is usually cheaper than an auditor doing it.

What if I miss the filing deadline?

Penalties apply and escalate. Deadlines are set at engagement and tracked, which is the point of the calendar.
