Foreign-Owned Company Setup in Hong Kong

For overseas founders

Foreign-Owned Company Setup in Hong Kong

Hong Kong places no restriction on foreign ownership and requires no resident director. Banking is the real constraint.

GCC business setup specialists

Open company law, cautious banks

There is no foreign ownership restriction, no local partner requirement and no investment approval. What limits overseas founders is that Hong Kong banks apply demanding onboarding standards to companies with no local footprint.

  • No ownership restriction to navigate
  • No resident director required
  • Banking difficulty addressed honestly up front

How it works

Setting up from overseas

Most of this runs remotely. We are candid about what does not.

01

Structure and people

Shareholding, directors and significant controllers settled, with identity evidence prepared for onboarding.

02

Incorporate

Incorporation and Business Registration completed, with a resident company secretary and registered office in place.

03

Banking conversation

A realistic assessment of banking options for a non-resident company, including alternatives where a traditional account is unlikely.

Questions

Hong Kong foreign ownership — FAQs

Is there any restriction on foreign ownership?

No, for ordinary commercial activity. Hong Kong is among the most open jurisdictions in this respect.

Do I need to visit Hong Kong?

Incorporation can be completed remotely. Banks frequently require directors to attend in person, which is often the deciding practical factor.

Will I be able to open a bank account?

It is the hardest part of a non-resident Hong Kong setup. We assess your profile honestly and tell you where it will be difficult before you spend anything.

Is my ownership public?

Directors and shareholders appear on the public register. The Significant Controllers Register is kept at the registered office rather than published.

Does owning a company give me residency?

No. Company ownership and immigration are separate, and incorporating confers no right to live or work in Hong Kong.
