Arabic is the real name
Trade Name Reservation in Kuwait
In Kuwait the Arabic name is the company’s actual name. The Latin version follows it rather than leading.

Start from Arabic, not from English
Foreign founders typically arrive with an English brand and ask for it to be transliterated. That reverses the process. The Arabic name is what is registered, what appears on the commercial registration and the municipal licence, and what must match your signage permit. Choosing an Arabic name that reads well, means what you intend and satisfies the ministry — then deriving the Latin form — produces a better result than transliterating a name chosen for another market.
- Arabic name developed properly, not transliterated as an afterthought
- Consistency ensured across registration, licence and signage
- Alternatives prepared so a refusal costs hours, not weeks
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

Where the name appears
The documents your name must match
A mismatch in any one of them causes rework.
| Document | What it carries |
|---|---|
| Articles of association | The name, notarised into the constitution. |
| Commercial registration | The registered Arabic name. |
| Municipal licence | The name against the licensed premises. |
| Signage permit | The name as it will physically appear. |
| Chamber membership | The registered name. |
| Bank mandate | Must match the registration exactly. |
Name rules, Arabic naming conventions and signage requirements are applied by the authorities with discretion and change. A reservation is time-limited, and we hold alternatives ready.
How it works
Building the name from Arabic outward
Arabic first, then the Latin form, then the documents.
Develop the Arabic name
Options developed or reviewed in Arabic for meaning, readability and acceptability, rather than transliterating an English brand and hoping.
Derive and reserve
The Latin form agreed alongside, and the preferred name reserved with the ministry with alternatives held in reserve.
Carry it consistently
The reserved name written into the articles before notarisation, then into the registration, municipal licence, signage permit and bank mandate so all six match.

Questions
Kuwait trade names — FAQs
Is the Arabic name just a translation of my English name?
No. The Arabic name is the company’s registered name, and it is better developed on its own terms than transliterated from a brand chosen for another market.
Should I prioritise meaning or sound in Arabic?
It depends on your brand. A name chosen for how it sounds may carry an unintended meaning, and one chosen for meaning may be awkward to say. We review both.
Why does consistency across documents matter?
Because the registration, municipal licence, signage permit and bank mandate all carry the name, and a discrepancy in any of them causes queries and rework.
Can I use my family name?
Shareholder and family names are commonly used in Kuwaiti trade names, with their own conventions. We advise on how to structure it.
Does the reserved name protect my brand?
No. It lets you register the company. Trademark registration is a separate filing and is what stops a competitor using the brand.
