The hardest part of a HK setup
Business Banking Readiness in Hong Kong
Incorporating in Hong Kong is easy. Opening a bank account is not, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling.

Where Hong Kong setups actually fail
Hong Kong banks apply demanding onboarding standards, and a company with no Hong Kong staff, premises or customers presents exactly the profile they scrutinise hardest. This is the single most common reason a Hong Kong structure disappoints.
- Honest assessment before you incorporate, not after
- File prepared the way banks actually assess it
- Alternatives set out where a traditional account is unlikely
Mainland, free zone and offshore jurisdictions we file in — so the recommendation is based on your activity, not on which authority we happen to be registered with.

What banks look at
The questions behind every application
A non-resident profile is tested hardest on the last two.
| Question | What a strong answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Who ultimately owns this? | A clear chain to named individuals, documented. |
| What does the business do? | A coherent activity with contracts or invoices to evidence it. |
| Where are customers and suppliers? | Identifiable counterparties, and jurisdictions the bank is comfortable with. |
| What is the Hong Kong connection? | Staff, premises, customers or suppliers here — the weakest point for most non-resident companies. |
| Will directors attend? | Most banks expect an in-person meeting. |
| Expected turnover | A realistic figure consistent with the structure. |
Account opening decisions rest entirely with the bank. We prepare and introduce; we do not guarantee approval or timing.
How it works
Getting to an open account
The honest assessment comes before incorporation, not after.
Assess the profile
Ownership, activity, counterparties and Hong Kong connection. Where we think an account is unlikely, we say so before you incorporate.
Prepare the file
Documents assembled and the business explained in the terms banks assess, with the gaps that cause refusals closed first.
Introduce and support
Introductions where the profile is viable, support through onboarding questions, and alternatives where it is not.

Questions
Hong Kong corporate banking — FAQs
Can you guarantee a Hong Kong bank account?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. We assess your profile honestly and tell you before incorporation if we think an account is unlikely.
Why are non-resident applications refused?
Usually the absence of a genuine Hong Kong connection, counterparties in jurisdictions the bank avoids, or an ownership chain the bank cannot follow.
Do directors need to attend in person?
Most banks expect it. That practical requirement often decides whether a Hong Kong structure is workable for you.
What are the alternatives?
Depending on your profile, regulated payment or e-money providers may be viable. They are not identical to a bank account and we explain the limitations rather than presenting them as equivalent.
Should I incorporate before trying to bank?
We would rather assess the banking position first. Incorporating and then failing to bank is the expensive sequence.
